Cambria was founded as a bit of paper which evolved into a business plan put together by founding Directors Mark Lavery and Rodney Smith. Having been a highly regarded operator in a number of large Groups, Mark’s entrepreneurial flair had driven him to want to create a car dealer group of his own. With the support of Rodney, they worked with the Group’s original Private Equity funder Promethean Investments to develop a buy and build business plan that would see the Group establish and develop a leading motor retail group in the UK.
The key differentiator to other Groups would be the focus on providing a World Class Guest Experience by giving authority and autonomy to the operating businesses to ensure that the Associates would be willing and able to go further in looking after the Group’s Guests.
The Acquisition strategy of the Group has seen it grow from one site with three franchises operating in Swindon in July 2006 to being a National Dealer Group with 30 locations, operating 45 new car franchises, representing 17 different franchise partners and employing 1,200 Associates by its 10th Anniversary in July 2016. In 2010 the Cambria Group became a plc with its admission to the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange taking it on to its next period of development.
The Group is proud to have achieved so much over its formative 10 years and is well set to push on to the next exciting phase of development that will see Cambria remain at the forefront of the UK Automotive Industry.
