Equal Opportunities and Diversity

The Company is committed to providing equal opportunities in employment. This means that all job applicants and associates will receive equal treatment regardless of their gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion, similar philosophical beliefs, Trade Union membership or non membership or any other irrelevant factor.

It is unlawful to discriminate against individuals either directly or indirectly in respect of their race (which expression includes colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin and religious and similar philosophical beliefs), sex (which expression includes sexual orientation and pregnancy), marital status, any disability or age.

Codes of Practice relating to race, sex discrimination, disability discrimination have been produced by various Statutory Bodies and have been used as the basis for this policy. The Company is committed to implementing these codes.

The following forms of discrimination are contrary to this policy:

  • Direct Discrimination - where a person is treated less favourably because of sex, marital status, race, , disability, or age.
  • Indirect Discrimination - where a requirement or condition which cannot be justified is applied equally to all groups, but has a disproportionately adverse effect on one particular group. Examples include restricting recruitment in areas where there are few ethnic minorities or a requirement which is non-essential to the job description which may exclude a disabled person (such as the requirement for a driving licence for a job which is mainly office based).
  • Victimisation - where an individual is given less favourable treatment than others in the same circumstances because they have made allegations or complaints of discrimination or provided information about such allegations or complaints, whether or not such victimisation is unlawful.
  • Harassment - where an individual is subject to physical or verbal abuse, hostile behaviour or uninvited attention because of their race, sex, disability or age.

The Company will take steps to ensure that there are equal opportunities in all stages of the recruitment process.

Promotion within the Company is made without regard to race, sex, marital status, disability or age and is based solely on merit.

Selection criteria and procedures will be frequently reviewed to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and treated solely on the basis of their respective merits and abilities.

The Company will deal with all persons with the same attention, courtesy and consideration, regardless of race, sex, marital status, disability or age.

The Company will treat seriously and take action when any associate has a grievance as a result of discrimination or harassment on grounds of race, sex, marital status, disability or age.
