The following forms of discrimination are contrary to this policy:
- Direct Discrimination - where a person is treated less favourably because of sex, marital status, race, , disability, or age.
- Indirect Discrimination - where a requirement or condition which cannot be justified is applied equally to all groups, but has a disproportionately adverse effect on one particular group. Examples include restricting recruitment in areas where there are few ethnic minorities or a requirement which is non-essential to the job description which may exclude a disabled person (such as the requirement for a driving licence for a job which is mainly office based).
- Victimisation - where an individual is given less favourable treatment than others in the same circumstances because they have made allegations or complaints of discrimination or provided information about such allegations or complaints, whether or not such victimisation is unlawful.
- Harassment - where an individual is subject to physical or verbal abuse, hostile behaviour or uninvited attention because of their race, sex, disability or age.
The Company will take steps to ensure that there are equal opportunities in all stages of the recruitment process.

Selection criteria and procedures will be frequently reviewed to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and treated solely on the basis of their respective merits and abilities.
